When cats are hunting their prey, they tend to move very, very slowly, often stopping and freezing still as they plan their next move. Although they kill literally millions and millions of birds every single year, scientists believe that they are not actually damaging the wild population, as many fledglings would die anyway from a variety of causes, such as wet weather and lack of food. Sick birds and young fledglings tend to be the easiest prey for cats.
