Photo showing a pair of common European damselflies mating and laying eggs in a garden pond, on a sunny afternoon. The blue damselfly is the male, while the female is pale green in colour. Other names for this species include common / northern bluet or common blue, while the Latin name is: Enallagma cyathigerum. It is often mistaken for the very similar Azure damselfly (Latin name: Coenagrion puella).
