Weaning lambs from the mother ewes can be a stressful time for the sheep, and so if they are close to their desired slaughter weight, farmers often leave them together for as long as 14 weeks or thereabouts. Milk production rapidly decreases from 12 weeks onwards, at which stage the lambs should be grazing well and approaching their independence.
