When laying block paving for a driveway, a deeper sub-base is required than a pathway, due to the heavy weight of cars and other vehicles driving and parking on the drive. This should consist of a deep layer of compacted hardcore / gravel, followed by levelled builder's sand. When finished, a fine, kiln-dried sand is brushed over the bricks, to fill in the gaps.
