Solar panel manufacturers generally state that when fitted onto a sunny, south-facing roof, these 'energy collectors' will pay for themselves in roughly ten years or thereabouts. However, they are obviously less effective in cloudy, wet weather, and so the local climate is a major factor in this equation.
