This North American signal crayfish (Pacifastacus leniusculus) is known for being an extremely invasive species, after being released into the rivers of Europe during the sixties. Due to carrying the crayfish plague, as well as being extremely aggressive, this crawfish has devastated native species in rivers, being present in more than 90 percent of all rivers within the United Kingdom alone. The species is often trapped using nets and crab lines, both to eat and in an unsuccessful attempt to control their numbers.
