Moorhens are a small type of waterfowl bird, with enormous yellow feed that allow them to wade in shallow water. They have black plumage with splashes of white feathers, along with a bright red bill / beak, tipped with yellow. Also known as river chickens and sometimes as marsh hens, moorhens are often mistaken for their close relative: coots. The Latin name for these birds is 'Gallinula chloropus'.
