The bright spots either side of its beak glow in the dark, so that its parents can see exactly where to feed in a dark nest box. Gouldians originate from Australia, where they are now an endangered bird. In a few months time, this plain grey / green bird will transform into a beautiful adult with stunning bright rainbow colours feathers - red, blue, yellow, purple and green - a real life 'Ugly Duckling'.
