Gouldians are often known as rainbow finches, due to their extremely bright colours. They originate from Australia, where they are now critically endangered, due to loss of habitat. However, they are extremely popular cage birds, with aviculturists (bird keepers) and zoological gardens breeding them in large numbers (this is often referred to as 'captive breeding'). These red-headed Gouldians with green backs are known as 'normals', although there are various mutations now available in captivity.
