This picture shows a stylish wooden nesting box / nestbox that has been made for wild birds, with the grooved front panel being painted a pale deck egg green / blue colour. The small entrance hole is designed to only allow access for blue tits and similar sized birds, while the metal ring helps to deter woodpeckers from pecking at the hole and gaining access. However, in reality, a determined woodpecker will simply choose to peck below the hole, on the roof or at the side on the box.
