This picture shows an African penguin, which is also known as the jackass or black-footed penguin. The bird's black back and white belly are a form of camouflage called countershading. When viewed from above the penguin blends into the dark ocean floor whilst ensuring that when viewied from below it merges with the brighter water surface.
