Common pheasants are easy to sex, with hens appearing brown and very camouflaged, and cock birds boasting a bright red face / wattle, a bottle-green coloured head and a prominent white collar. The male's plumage is a much darker, richer brown with bands of paler markings, while its tail is longer and streaked.
