When pigeons gather in large numbers, tourists often see them as something of an attraction, while for the locals, they are nothing but a nuisance, causing much mess in the form of droppings on windowsills and walls. Local councils therefore often employ pest control agencies to reduce their numbers in extreme cases by shooting and trapping them (outside of the main breeding season).
