Ash trees are a common sight throughout the countrysides of Britain and around Europe, although a recent 'dieback' disease has started to affect some woodlands since the mid-1990s. Ashes can grow into large and impressive spreading specimens, although when they are part of a dense woodland, they simply become thin and grow upwards, reaching for their share of the light.
