This picture shows the edge of a dense mixed conifer and deciduous forest, where the strong morning sunlight is only just managing to penetrate through the dense evergreen canopy overhead. The forest floor is covered with dead twigs and very few plants, with this lack of undergrowth being the result of the heavy shade cast by these evergreen conifers and silver birch trees.
