Red-bellied piranhas have been the subject of numerous scary films, where they have shoaled in large groups and devoured anything that got in their way. However, in reality, this type of group hunting is quite rare and their ferocious behaviour is not quite as bad as their reputation suggests. They are actually quite sociable fish, both in the wild and in captivity.
