Cardinals (and their popular relatives, the Neon tetra) look particularly impressive shoaling around as one large group, rather than in an aquarium tank with mixture of different fish, colours and sizes. They should be kept in groups of at least five or six fish, to promote this natural schooling behaviour and reduce stress levels.
