This picture shows rows and rows of ripening sunflowers in the sunshine, being farmed on a big scale for their high yield of oil. When the flowers are ripe, all of the petals will have fallen off and the back of the seed head will turn brown. Long periods of weather during the ripening stage can have a devastating affect on the crop, causing mildew and fungal problems, and a real headache for the farmer.
