Many beaches do allow the use of barbecues, although they often stipulate that they can only be used after 5 pm or 6 pm, and therefore not during the day. This is because the charcoal can often cause a great deal of smoke when they are first lit, and also when the fat is dripping from the burgers and sausages, and so later in the day, there are likely to be fewer people on the beach to complain.
