Photo showing a group of flowering evergreen azalea shrubs (rhododendrons). These azaleas are growing in a woodland setting, alongside a tarmac pathway and some sizeable purple-leafed Japanese maples (acer palmatum 'atropurpureum'). The flower buds open around mid-spring and last for several weeks (partly depending upon the weather), meaning that together these bushes usually manage to put on quite a show, especially when the sun is shining.
