Disputes between neighbours are often caused by hedges that have been allowed to get out of hand and grow too tall. However, Leylandii hedging can only be pruned back to green shoots and not bare wood, as it is unable to bud back. Therefore, it is important that it is regularly trimmed once or twice a year and not allowed to grow into a line of 'trees'. Pruning in early spring or late autumn is advised, in case any birds are nesting in the dense hedge during the summer.
