It is important that Leylandii hedges are regularly trimmed to keep the growth compact and prevent the surrounding gardens from being shaded. it is also worth noting that the branches cannot be cut back to bare wood as they will not reshoot, and therefore they must always be pruned back to green growth - another good reason for not allowing Leyland cypresses to get too large for a back garden.
