Leylandii is the perfect choice for a dense hedge, provided that you are able to regularly prune the trees to size and shape. If the trees become too large, they run the risk of not only being difficult to prune logistally, but also horticulturally, as they cannot be pruned back to bare wood. Leyland cypress trees will never bud back from bare wood, only green shoots. Therefore, a hard autumn trim every year, without fail, is ideal.
