These flowers are not typical water lilies, as the flowers appear more like a bud than an actually bloom, while the leaves are more oval in shape. This extremely invasive plant is most commonly known as the bullhead lily, spatterdock, water shield or cow lily, with its large rhizomes and roots favouring a pond with a muddy base. Its Latin name is: Nuphar lutea.
