Ash trees can reach heights of more than 35 metres, with older trees exhibiting craggy, fissured bark, rather like an oak. A serious fungus disease known as Hymenoscyphus pseudoalbidus has started to affect ash woodlands throughout Europe, causing the death of many trees, old and young alike.
