Photo showing a storm damaged horse chestnut tree, pictured in a field during the early winter months against a sunny blue sky, just after this deciduous tree had lost its leaves in the autumn / fall. The horse chestnut tree may look like it is dying, but it is actually slowly and surely regenerating after losing its top section in a lightning storm (snapped off). The tree is starting to regrow its branches and form a strong, vigorous replacement leader. Of note, the Latin name for this tree is 'aesculus hippocastanum'.
