Coastal / Californian sequoias have been known to reach great heights and live for many hundreds of years, and on occasion, they can live longer than 1,000 years. Fossils of this species have been found dating all the way back to the Jurassic period, where they are virtually unchanged despite many millions of year's worth of evolution.
