Although yews are only considered to be a medium-sized tree, reaching heights of between 20 and 25 metres, they can easily live for well over 500 years, reaching more than 1,000 years on occasion. Some of the oldest and arguably the most beautiful yew trees can be found growing in graveyards, since they were once considered to have strong religious attributes, connected to afterlife and the 'resurrection'.
