Photo showing a patch of vigorous lettuces, radishes and carrots, growing in a walled kitchen garden. These lettuce plants include several different varieties and colours. The plants have all be planted in neat rows, which makes it easier to keep an eye on how well the seeds germinate, as well as making it easy to identify garden weeds / weeding. At the back of the garden is a row of fruit trees, which have been planted up the wall at the 45-degree angle to improve their fruiting - being trained 'cordon' style (cordons / oblique cordon) and carefully pruned to maintain even growth. These trees include both pear and apple cordons.
