This pumpkin plant (Cucurbita pepo / squash) is being grown in an unusual way, as a climbing plant grown up an arbour made with trellis, supported only by its tendrils. The pumpkins are therefore hanging down freely, which has the advantage that the bottoms won't get dirty or rot - however, if they get too large and too heavy before harvest time, they may fall off if left unsupported.
